Robotergesetze (Laws of Robotics) is a blog about Artificial Intelligence and other trends in information technology. It is one of the oldest blogs about AI research. From 2012 to 2014, it was part of SciLogs, the blogger community of Spektrum der Wissenschaft / Nature Publishing. In 2013 the blog was nominated for the SciLogs Prize.
I’m a German freelance writer with a focus on the relationship between humans and machines. I write about information technology, especially robotics, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and medical technology, video games, cyber security and industrial automation.
My articles are published in a wide range of newspapers and magazines, for example Technology Review, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Psychologie Heute („Psychology Today), t3n, brand eins, Neue Zuercher Zeitung am Sonntag, Spiegel Online, Zeit Online and others. I’m a member of the German Journalists Association.
In 2013 my story „Vertrau mir!“ („Trust me!“) about social robots has been nominated for the German Price for Innovation Journalism. My article „Ich denke, also steuere ich“ („I think, therefore I control“) has been shortlisted for the journalism award „PUNKT“ in 2014 by the German Academy of Science and Engineering.
From 2014 to 2017 I have been a member of the Advisory Board of the European research initiative BNCI Horizon 2020 – The Future of Brain/Neural Computer Interaction. In 2018 I wrote the expertise for the permanent robot exhibition in the National Museum of Switzerland in Zuerich.
I’m also author of two books. The first is the SPIEGEL bestseller „Als wir zum Surfen noch ans Meer gefahren sind. Unser Leben vor dem Internet“ (engl. „When We Still Drove to the Beach to Go Surfing. Our Life before the Internet“). It is a collection of humorous short stories about our everyday life before the internet changed it. My second book is the non-fiction book „1978“ about consumer technology of that year.
My third book will be about the influence of robotics and artificial intelligence on medicine. It will be published in 2020.
I’m father of four children, three boys and a girl. I live in Bonn, Germany. My passions other than writing are drawing & painting.
